Vindhem is operated on a voluntary basis by the Sundsvall Sailing Club’s building association and the Sundsvall Sailing Club, and we hope you enjoy your stay with us. We appreciate your help in keeping both the marina and the entire wonderful area of Vindhem clean and tidy.
History
SuSS purchased Vindhem from Raholms-Kajsa in the early 20th century, and the new clubhouse was completed in 1911. The society formed a dedicated association—Sundsvalls Segelsällskaps Byggnadsförening (Sundsvall Sailing Society’s Building Association)—which remains responsible for Vindhem to this day. According to its statutes, the association’s purpose is to ”provide premises for the Sundsvall Sailing Society and other individuals or organizations interested in sailing in Sundsvall or the surrounding area.”
The clubhouse was subsequently expanded and, until the fire on August 14, 1979, served as a highly popular summer restaurant in Sundsvall. The photo below dates from 1965.

From being a clubhouse, expansions were gradually made in different stages. The terrace was expanded, toilets were arranged, a roof over the dance floor which then became a dining room. The picture above shows the final design.
During the 1930s and 40s, the restaurant was run by various actors. In 1948, the operation was taken over by Gunnar Wilöf, who also ran Hotel Knaust in Sundsvall.
In 1964, Wilöf bought the restaurant and the associated land from the Sailing Society. After the fire, the Wilöf family wanted to sell the plot back to SuSS, but it was not until 1996 before that deal could be completed, as a number of cottage owners in Vindhem were allowed to buy out their plots, with this money SuSS was able to buy the land back from Wilöf.
In the 1930s, the Aramis pier was built, which made it possible for tour boats to dock in Vindhem. Aramis began sailing to Vindhem in the early 1950s and Captain Bölja is a legend in sailing circles as he and boatswain Morgan ensured that restaurant guests could take the boat between Sundsvall and Vindhem. On weekends, tours were made around Alnön. Aramis was in service until the fire in 1979, she is now located on Strandvägen in Stockholm and is used as a residence but made private tours every summer at least until a few years ago.

In 1977, the new clubhouse was inaugurated in connection with the Sailing Society’s 100th anniversary. The clubhouse has been rented out to various restaurateurs for a number of years. Mimmi Siezing has developed the restaurant for 10 years, which is now very popular.

Summercafé run by young people is located in the secretariat, open Monday to Friday from midsummer week and nine weeks onwards. Please support our business and make summer work more enjoyable for young people.
A restaurant with very good food and a pleasant environment is located in the area, we recommend a visit there.
Swimming opportunities are available at the sandy beach below the secretariat but also at Nothällan where there are nice cliffs. Nothällan is located at the farthest southeast in the area.
Sauna is available to all paying guests.

Waste management plan
A suction emptying facility for toilet waste for boats is located at the “Aramisbryggan”.
A flushing sink for “Porta Porti” or similar devices is located at the caravan campsite’s sink building.
Emptying of grey water from motorhomes/caravans takes place in a special place in the parking lot closest to the service building.
Resident and visiting boats as well as caravan campsite tenants have access to the service building’s WC.
Garbage bins for ordinary “household waste” are located at the parking lot. Two for the harbor and one for the campsite. These are emptied by REKO once a week during the summer season. Other waste is not taken care of by Sundsvalls Segelsällskap. Those who are residents of the harbor or at the campsite are responsible for ensuring that this is left at Sundsvall Municipality’s reception or recycling stations.
Our buildings that have water and sewage are connected to the municipal sewage network.
